San Diego’s music scene draws from a small-yet-potent pool of talented musicians. The way musicians pair up and produce new bands out of old ones resembles a Rubik’s Cube, as one can turn it on all sides, examine the different combinations, and try to envision how it all fits together. The chemistry in Tristeza produces instrumental songs with a wooly texture and superior technical complexity. Were there vocal melodies, it might get too crowded but, like the San Diego scene, every piece has its place.
