Brothers Matt and Bubba Kadane decided to start The New Year not long after their band Bedhead dissolved. Though they carry a new moniker, the slow, metrically complicated, post-rock sound conceived in Bedhead is still alive in The New Year. They possess a simplicity that is difficult to come by after decades of making music, as though the brothers made a pact that they would forever make music in basements as they have always done, never letting it get old. And, true to form, their sleepy sound is still engaging fans years on.
